The Radical Act of Slowing Down

The Rush

"Move fast and break things." "Optimize." "Scale."

The modern world worships speed. But deep creativity—the kind that changes us—often requires slowness. Incubation takes time.

Slow Looking

Museums have a practice called "Slow Looking"—spending 10+ minutes with a single piece of art. You see things in minute 9 that you missed in minute 1.

Try this with a MiroCard (or any image):

  1. Set a timer for 5 minutes.
  2. Look at one image. Just one.
  3. Don't analyze. Just observe.
  4. Notice the details, the textures, the feelings that arise.

It feels boring at first. Then it feels peaceful. Then, often, it sparks an idea that never would have come in a 3-second glance.

Be the turtle in a world of hares. The view is better.
